Most Reliable Vehicles Of The Decade

December 9, 2019, 12:00 am

Just like that, we’ve hit a totally new decade. Over the past ten years, we’ve been treated to some big changes in vehicle design, quality, and tech. We’re taking a look at some of the best offerings from the past ten years. File these away for when it’s time to grab something used, or as a benchmark against your next purchase!

We’re not totally sure what to call it, but the twenty-teens (2011-2019) have seen some dramatic changes. Instead of a lone leader in EVs with the Toyota Prius, the market has any number of electric and hybrid models from every brand. Trucks have been loaded with tech and creature comforts, crossovers have seen greatly improved fuel economy, and seemingly every car boasts impressive safety changes.

Our favorites aren’t just highlights to look at in the rearview mirror. These are great cars to keep in mind when you’re looking to purchase used cars that are reliable and easy to maintain, plus have many of the perks newer cars have without the price tag.

Honda CR-V. Since 2011, the Honda CR-V took the top score in its class six times. One in four owners are expected to own their CR-V for more than a decade, and with hundreds of thousands on the roads across the country, this is a model you’ll see for a long, long time. Watch for in-dash navigation starting in 2012 at a really great price for your next used car.

Toyota Tundra. It’s rare that any car or truck gets called perfect. It’s even rarer to earn perfect reliability ratings. Well, the Tundra earned that honor no less than nine times since 2010. Primarily built in Texas, it’s one of the most American-made vehicles on the market. One of the factors that keep this truck under the radar is that we’re used to it; it hasn’t received a major redesign in over a decade, but if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

Nissan Leaf. This decade saw electric and hybrid really take off. The Leaf was one of the pioneers in efficiency, and one of the rare vehicles that quickly established itself as one families could rely on. It was the only hybrid to top reliability lists four years in a row, and the redesigned model in 2018 saw it immediately back atop the heap!

Driving something built in the past ten years you're happy with? Let us know!
